VISION

The chapter focuses on the need of creating a  mental picture of the future. It may not be as simple as the definition of vision sounds because this is not understood by many. Vision helps an individual to transcend a past or current negative circumstance into a positive resolution.

GOAL

The view-aim-shoot process was carefully dissected in the pages of this chapter, as well as, types of goal, tips to actualizing goals and reasons why people do not achieve their goals using clear and concise principles to describe SMART concept.

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Achievable
  • Realistic
  • Timebound

LEADERSHIP

Leadership is the act of directing, running, supervising, and influencing a group or an organization.

Leadership is also the ability to take a lead and meet a need. Leadership is not by title and everyone can lead in different areas of life. There are distinguishing factors between leadership and rulership which was depicted in the pages of the chapter and learning unfolds.

According to Gustavo Razzetti, there are  four types of leadership style model which  covers some leadership behaviors, considering the following two axes:

  1. Protecting (of traditions, status quo, relationships) or Growth (vision, creativity, business).
  2. Individualism (divide and conquer) or Collectivism (unite and build).

The intersection of both creates four key leadership styles: Coaching, Fearful, Fearless, and Challenger. This matrix aligns with the Four Types of Company Culture Canvas – both frameworks go hand-in-hand.

GOVERNANCE

To students, it’s all about how to hold duty bearers accountable for their actions, such as the services they provide. Students ought to participate in decision-making processes, like how the school runs, or how local government funds are allocated for community initiatives because when they are involved, they will know where the problem is in the process.

You need education and information to be empowered, so you can engage the government and decision-makers and demand your rights. The chapter conceives explicit methodologies that need to exert the power of governance even as students.

COMMUNICATION

In learning, the art of communication and public speaking is the best way to nurture a successful and confident you.

Public speaking is the process of presenting speeches to a live audience. The speech is structured to inform, persuade, and or educate. To be successful, you need to find your voice and express it on a global platform through captivating and compelling speeches.

You will find out that a lot of leaders in the society turn out to be great speakers, regardless of the field that they are in. From elementary school, all the way to the directors of a massive company, those who can speak well are deeply admired by their peers. More tips to excel in the art of effective communication and public speaking shall be unveiled in the book, Seven Star Student.

DILIGENCE

Excelling in your academics will give you an advantage and will allow an employer to easily spot you in the marketplace, you’ll have high self-esteem, a low potential of sinking into depression/ anxiety, be less likely to drown in substance/ alcohol abuse, and a high level of confidence.

However, even though a good grade can open the door of opportunity to you, it will take another level of excellence for you to keep those doors open though.

Grown-ups who are academically successful are more likely to have jobs, stable means of livelihood, earn higher salaries, be less dependent on people for assistance, and have more career alternatives than those with less education. This is truer in Africa. Healthy habits to help Highly Effective Students will be discovered through the pages of the chapter.

POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE

PMA is contagious and it breeds positive results. You need to always walk with your shoulders high and with confidence. This is influenced by positive thoughts you have over yourself. You must always have a “can do” mentality and not a “can’t do” mentality. You must move from “Impossible” to “It’s-possible”. There is nothing you can’t achieve if you have the right mindset.

A positive mental attitude will always guarantee you a win, no matter what you may be faced with in life. You will have the energy to keep going and the will to navigate the downtime you are sure to encounter on your life journey.

RESPONSIBILITY

Being responsible demands that you can live up to expectations. As a student, you are sent to school to learn skills that will enable you to fend for yourself and contribute to the environment you grew up in, and then to the world.

If you are unable to pass your examination, which is an important part of your schooling process, it simply means you are irresponsible because it is one of the things expected of you as a student.

Discipline simply means you obey rules and regulations within and outside the school. You represent the school even when you’re not putting on your uniform because your actions will affect the school’s image as long as you’re learning there.

Responsibility is the prize for greatness. You are either playing with your future now or you are paying the price for your future. Student responsibility happens when you become active in your learning, making you accountable for your academic success.

LETTER TO MY TEACHERS (WHAT I WISH MY TEACHERS KNEW ABOUT ME)

This chapter exposes keen thoughts of students addressing the way they feel about teachers using wrong teaching methodology in the classroom. Quite a number of distress students face during their learning process is as a result of lack of empathy from the teacher to the student which makes it seem as if knowledge were dumped on them with no choice whatsoever. People are choosing to learn at their pace now because that is what is prevalent in the future.

STUDENT’S CREED

Contained in this Chapter are constructed maxims called “The Student’s Creed” which is both a commitment pledge and an affirmation of who you really are, and what you do and stand for as a Seven Star Student. This Chapter enlightens you as a student that you must be intentional about defining your values and programming your mindsets by balancing the seven areas required of you to thrive as a Seven Star Student!

The 7 Star conversion training gave me an edge over most corps members and teachers in a big school where i did my primary assignment as a Corp member such that i was the only Corp member that was retained after service and today i’m handling a big office in the school. The school believes so much in
me because of the level of professionalism i exhibited. A big thanks to 7star program.
